BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir speaks at a rally in Haripur upazila of Thakurgaon on Wednesday, September 18, 2024.
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has said minority communities must be protected “even with our lives.”
'We must ensure that Hindus can celebrate Durga Puja in a festive and peaceful manner,' Fakhrul told BNP leaders and activists
“We must ensure that they (Hindus) can celebrate Durga Puja in a festive and peaceful manner,” Fakhrul told a rally in Haripur upazila of Thakurgaon on Wednesday afternoon.
The BNP leader referred to the teachings of the Holy Quran, saying when limits were crossed, there was no escape. “Those who ruled with arrogance are now seeking refuge in India. Those who imprisoned us are now imprisoned themselves. We must take a lesson from this, as nothing is possible outside Allah's command."
Fakhrul jokingly remarked that Obaidul Quader had said he would never flee. “Where is he now? Will he take shelter at my home?"
"Gradually, more information about the misdeeds of the dictatorship is coming to light… If we start behaving like the Awami League, will we survive?” he said. Behaving like the Awami League would mean losing everything achieved through the uprising, Fakhrul added.
“The safety of the Hindu community is our responsibility; we must not neglect this duty. You must ensure, like vigilant guards, that the Hindu community can celebrate Durga Puja in a festive atmosphere."
He also sought prayers for Khaleda Zia, adding that Tarique Zia had kept the BNP united and led it successfully.
“Do not lose the victory that has come through hardship. We want to live as good neighbours with India, but we will not hesitate to counter it if there is wrongdoing."
