Jatiya Party (JaPa) Chairman GM Quader has said that his party has been facing discrimination by a specific group who are accusing them of opposing the anti-discrimination student movement.

Terming them as false accusations, the JaPa chairman said his party actively supported the anti-discrimination student movement. He pointed out that legal cases were filed against its leaders and activists in Rangpur as a result.

While presiding over a meeting of the JaPa's presidium members at his office in Banani on Thursday, Quader said: "When the students began their anti-discrimination movement on July 1, I spoke in support of them in Parliament on July 3 in front of the then-prime minister. I emphasized that this movement is justified and the quota system in jobs is unconstitutional.

“During a JaPa council meeting in Gazipur on July 6, I said that the quota system in jobs is against the spirit of the Liberation War and encouraged students to take an oath at the Shahid Minar and demanded the release of six coordinators who were detained,” he added.

Quader alleged that there are conspiracies surrounding the success of the student movement, and a group is attempting to associate the JaPa with opposition to it.

He said: "Our leaders and workers have participated in the anti-discrimination movement and have faced attacks and legal cases. This injustice will not be accepted."

"We did not wish to participate in the 2014 and 2024 elections; we were forced to do so. We engage in politics to work for the people, not to become ministers or MPs," he added.

In conclusion, Quader expressed confidence in the future of the JaPa and urged leaders and activists to be prepared to sacrifice against injustice.
