The meeting took place on the sidelines of the UNGA on Wednesday evening (September 25, Bangladesh time).

“Bangladesh and Pakistan underscored the need to revitalise their bilateral cooperation across various levels,” the chief adviser’s office said in a Facebook post.

It is the first such high-level meeting between the two countries in many years. The meeting’s goal is to strengthen and accelerate the ongoing efforts to mend ties. Former prime minister Sheikh Hasina virtually severed such contacts during her 15-year reign.

Shehbaz recently held a telephone conversation with Dr Yunus. This surge in diplomatic communication has reignited hopes for a thaw in the once-strained relationship between the two countries, the Pakistani media says.
