Rani Hamid, the oldest player in Bangladesh’s Chess Olympiad contingent, secured another victory in the 45th edition of the FIDE event in Budapest as she defeated a Botswana opponent in the fifth-round game.
The 80-year old beat Rebatenne Boitshepo which helped Bangladesh team earn a 2-2 draw in the women’s section.
Rani earlier defeated Leshay Springer of Barbados in the third round.
Bangladesh’s other women’s team members Walijah Ahmed and Wadifa Ahmed drew with Gabatshwarwe Refilweand and Mosweu Atlang Amolemo of Botswana respectively while Noshin Anjum lost to Marape Naledi in their respective fifth-round matches.
The open team comprising Bangladesh’s male participants won their fifth-round matches against Jordan by 3-1 game points.
International Master Mohammad Fahad Rahman, FIDE Master Manon Reja Neer and Grandmaster Enamul Hossain Razib won against GM Ahmed Al Khatib, IM Loay Sameer and Candidate Master Saif Malek respectively.
FM Tahsin Tajwar Zia lost to Anas Khwaira.
Bangladesh open team earned six match points and the women's side accumulated five points after the fifth round.
