Bangladesh’s ace all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan has announced his retirement from Test and T20 Internationals.

The former men’s cricket team captain made the announcement at a press conference on Thursday, a day before the Kanpur Test against India, according to media reports.

However, Shakib will play his last Test match on home soil against South Africa in October, following which he will hang up his white jersey.

His final T20 appearance came during the ICC Men's T20 World Cup earlier this year.

When asked about his plans for ODI cricket, Shakib said he intended to play until next year’s Champions Trophy in Pakistan.

The cricketer revealed his decision to retire from Test cricket after he was enquired about playing the Test match against South Africa at home next month. In response, he said: "Look, as of now, I am available. Given the situation in the country, not everything is in my hands. I have discussed these matters with the BCB and informed them of my plans. I felt that this series and the home series would be my last, especially in Test cricket."
