China reaffirms boosting Bangladesh ties: Spokesperson

China attaches importance to developing Bangladesh-China relations, China’s Foreign Affairs Spokesperson Mao Ning's Office said on Thursday.

Spokesperson Mao Ning made the remarks in response to questions from Bangladeshi journalist Mohammad Saiyedul Islam regarding Chinese Ambassador Yao Wen's meeting with Shafiqur Rahman, the ameer of the Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami party.

Mao Ning said that China has always pursued a policy of good neighbourliness and friendship towards all Bangladeshi people. “We are willing to strengthen exchanges and cooperation with the interim government, political parties and other sectors of Bangladesh,” she added.

The spokesperson further mentioned that China will continue to support and assist Bangladesh's economic and social development to the best of its ability and play a constructive role in promoting the repatriation of refugees from Rakhine State currently in Bangladesh.

Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Yao Wen recently met with Shafiqur Rahman at Jamaat’s central office in Moghbazar, Dhaka.

During the meeting, Shafiqur Rahman appreciated China's significant contribution to Bangladesh's economic and social development.

He reiterated Jamaat’s firm support for the One-China principle and also requested China to be more active in investment and the rehabilitation of Rohingyas.
