Global concerns over a full-scale war in the Middle East grow as Hezbollah declares a “battle of reckoning” with Israel and the Israeli military promises to step up attacks on the Lebanese armed group.

A longstanding, simmering conflict between Israel and the Lebanese group Hezbollah is escalating as Israel’s military launches ‘extensive’ attacks on Hezbollah.

The attack comes after Hezbollah claimed several attacks on Israeli military positions in the occupied Lebanese Shebaa farms as well as in northern Israel, reports news agencies.

Overnight on Sunday, exchanges following devastating attacks on Hezbollah’s communication systems ratcheted up tension across the border, with chances of war imminent, according to Israeli Army former Brigadier General Amir Avivi.

Israel’s military bombed two schools sheltering displaced Palestinians in Gaza, killing at least seven people, amid Israeli media reports that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is examining plans to use siege tactics against Hamas in northern Gaza.

On Saturday, an Israeli strike on the southern suburbs of Beirut killed 14, including a senior Hezbollah commander, and wounded 66.

Israel’s military says it launched 400 attacks on Lebanon overnight on Sunday, while Hezbollah says it fired rockets at the Ramat David airbase near the Israeli city of Haifa.

The Iran-allied Islamic Resistance in Iraq claimed to have launched al-Arqab missiles at Israeli bases, though no casualties are reported.
