Chief Advisor Muhammed Yunus will address the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly shortly.

Yunus is scheduled to deliver his speech at 10am local time (8pm Bangladesh time) on Friday in the General Assembly Hall at the UN headquarters in New York.

According to the Chief Advisor's press wing, he will speak between 8pm and 9:30pm Bangladesh time during the UNGA session.

Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam said the chief advisor was expected to deliver a landmark speech at the UNGA session on Friday and hoped that he would be able to attract the attention of the world leaders.

He said Yunus would deliver the speech at the UNGA session in Bengali.

During his speech, Yunus will highlight the heroic saga of the July-August mass uprising in Bangladesh.

Yunus, the 2016 Nobel Peace laureate, is expected to outline his government's reform agenda to rebuild the state structure in light of recent changes in Bangladesh.

He will also address global and regional issues, including the Rohingya crisis, climate change, and the need for inclusive economic development.

This year, the UNGA theme is “Leaving no one behind: acting together for the advancement of peace, sustainable development and human dignity for present and future generations”.

Yunus arrived in New York on Sept 23 to attend the 79th session of the UNGA and other high-level events.

He met world leaders and heads of international organisations including US President Joe Biden, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and UN Secretary-General António Guterres on the sidelines of the UNGA.

The chief advisor is scheduled to leave the US for Dhaka at 9:30 pm New York local time on Friday.
