The Indian government has officially designated Hizb-Ut-Tahrir as a ‘Terrorist Organization’.
The announcement was made by the Ministry of Home Affairs on Thursday, aligning with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s policy of zero tolerance towards terrorism.
In a statement released on X (formerly Twitter), the ministry highlighted that Hizb-Ut-Tahrir has been involved in various acts of terror, including radicalizing vulnerable youths to join terrorist organizations and raising funds for terrorist activities.
The group poses a serious threat to India's national security and sovereignty.
It added: “The Modi government is committed to securing Bharat by dealing with the forces of terror with an iron fist.”
A gazette notification has also been issued to formalize this declaration.
Hizb-ut-Tahrir, founded in Jerusalem in 1953, is a global pan-Islamic group.
The group's headquarters is in Lebanon and it operates in at least over 30 countries including the United Kingdom, the United States, Canada and Australia. Source: Hindustan Times.
